Skiing in the Dolomites: High-Standard Ski Resorts

The Dolomites are arguably one of the largest mountain ranges for skiing. Cortina D’Ampezzo, the region’s most famous resort, is well-structured, complete, and beautiful. It’s a local favorite and boasts an entirely Italian atmosphere. Val Gardena is ideal for more experienced skiers, as 65% of its slopes are for intermediate and advanced levels. Madonna di Campiglio offers amazing runs for all levels, with stunning accommodations. In Corvara, you’ll find the perfect family-friendly environment.

Unique Experiences: Snowmobiling and Winter Hiking

Snowmobile

For those looking for exciting and different experiences, snowmobiling is a fantastic option. This safe and reliable mode of transportation allows you to cover greater distances thanks to its remarkable autonomy. You can rent all the necessary safety equipment in any of the Dolomite towns. For added peace of mind, you can also book a guided tour.

Alternatively, opt for a more physical activity like winter hiking. Equipped with snowshoes, and guided by experts, you can explore the spectacular alpine trails at your own pace, with the convenience of transportation to and from the trailhead, as well as snowshoes and poles provided.

Frozen Lakes in the Dolomites

Lake Braies

During the coldest season, the lakes in the Dolomites freeze over. One example is Lake Braies, where you can even walk on the frozen surface. This lake is famous not only in the Italian Alps but throughout the country. From Lake Braies to Lake Dobbiaco is only 19 km, about a 20-minute drive. There, you’ll find cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy the lake views. Nearby is Lake Landro, just a 15-minute drive away. Stop to take in the scenery, have a snack, and snap some photos. There are no facilities at this lake, but at Lake Misurina, you’ll find accommodations, restaurants, and hotels around the lake.

Gourmet Cuisine: Incredible Restaurants in the Dolomites

In a region as spectacular as Italy’s Dolomites, world-class restaurants are a must. Foodies will find a variety of Michelin-starred restaurants in Alta Badia, such as the renowned La Stüa de Michil. In San Cassiano, St. Hubertus, a former pizzeria, is now a high-end restaurant boasting three Michelin stars. In Cortina D’Ampezzo, visit Al Capriolo, where you can admire original 19th-century paintings and hunting trophies. In Brunico, the standout restaurant is Atelier Moessmer Norbert Niederkofler, which follows the philosophy of “Cooking the Mountain,” focusing on high-quality ingredients sourced from the surrounding peaks. Anna Stuben in Val Gardena is another must-visit. This Michelin-starred restaurant offers a fascinating atmosphere, warm service, and, of course, divine dishes.

Wine Tasting in the Dolomites

The sub-region of the Dolomites responsible for wine production is Trentino-Alto Adige. The vineyards are nestled among mountains and crystal-clear lakes, creating a paradise-like setting. Winding roads, lined with vineyards and orchards, evoke an impressionist atmosphere.

There are numerous wineries to visit, including Loacker Weingut, Cantina Rotari, Cantine Ferrari F.lli Lunelli, Cantina Bolzano, and Cantine Moser.

The wines produced here are of high quality, focusing on grapes that thrive in cooler climates, such as Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. However, you’ll also find international varieties, along with local grapes such as Teroldego, Schiava, and Lagrein.
